CMA award, country music biggest night, was held in Nashville last night. Too bad it ain't broadcast in Singapore, cause i wouldn't give the star studded award show a miss, especially since my idols- Carrie and Kellie- are both nominated. But thankfully, we have YouTube. The most successful idol to come out from the widely renowned reality show, Carrie Underwood, managed to clinch Female Vocalist of the Year, twice in a row. She performed her latest single, So Small, clad in a beautiful floaty yellow gown. Perfection, i must say. Girl is here to stay, and she's unstoppable. The new Shania Twain!
Then we move on to my FAVOURITE idol, Kellie Pickler. No, she didn't managed to win idol (instead coming in at a humble 6th place in Season 5) and neither did she won the Horizon Award (equivalent to the Best New Artist award) but she did something that creates a buzz like no other that night. If we don't count Rascal Flatts' second performance of the night, Kellie was the last to perform. Dressed in a strapless red gown with her hair combed back (eh, a bit too mature in my opinion but looks aren't everything!), Miss Pickler emotionally belted out her most successful single to date, the autobiographical tune " I Wonder ". The audience reacted strongly to Kellie, cheering her on from the start to the end, offering her the support she need to sing this heartwrenching song. I've never seen such huge response from the audience in any performance by an artist. Kellie struggled to fight back tears midway through the songs, if not for the support of the crowd, and broke down at the end. It follows by roar of applauses and cheers and a standing ovation (as much as i love Carrie, her performance didn't garnered a standing O). The last sentence of the song definitely hit me real hard. The lyrics goes "Your little girl, is off to Tennessee." and she changed it to "I'm in Tennessee", before breaking down in tears. People, Pickler has arrived. I'm positive that people aren't going to see her as the ditzy blonde from idol anymore, and instead treat her more seriously as an artist now. The performance never fails to give me goosebump each and every single time i view it. Outstanding.
